Nintendo Officially Unveils the Switch 2 with Bigger Screen, Improved Controllers, and Backward Compatibility

After months of rumors and leaks, Nintendo has finally revealed the long-awaited successor to the Switch console—the Switch 2. The new console boasts a larger screen, upgraded controllers, and improved functionality, including backward compatibility with most original Switch games.

A teaser video released Thursday showcases the original Switch, which then transforms, inflating in size as its features come into focus. The video highlights the console’s updated design, including a bigger kickstand supporting the Switch 2 at more angles. The controllers are also shown increasing in size, suggesting improved ergonomics and addressing long-standing concerns like the Joy-Con drift issue that plagued the original Switch.

Enhanced Features and Compatibility

The Switch 2 will support digital and physical games from the original Switch lineup via game cards. However, Nintendo notes that “certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.”

Like its predecessor, the Switch 2 connects to an included dock, enabling gaming on a TV at higher resolutions. While the teaser video gave fans a glimpse of the console, it stopped short of revealing key details like specs, pricing, or a launch date. Nintendo plans to share more information during a Nintendo Direct event on Wednesday, April 2.

Hands-On Demos and Dedicated Website

Nintendo has launched a website for the Switch 2, where fans can find more details about the console. The company also announced in-person demos starting in April, with events planned for New York, Los Angeles, and Dallas.

Fans eager to attend these events can register for a chance to secure a ticket. Registration opens on January 17 at 12 p.m. PT / 2 p.m. CT / 3 p.m. ET and closes on January 26 at 11:59 p.m. local time for each location. Tickets will be distributed through a free-to-enter, random drawing.

Stay Tuned

With the Switch 2, Nintendo promises a blend of familiar features and exciting upgrades, setting the stage for a new era of hybrid gaming. Stay tuned for more details from the upcoming Nintendo Direct event and hands-on demo opportunities in the months ahead.

The latest 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models not only offer a significant power boost but also come with two surprising updates: they retain the Air’s fanless cooling design despite the more powerful chip, and Apple has lowered their starting prices by $100 compared to the previous generation. (Credit: Apple) MacBook Air (M4): Power Meets Affordability The 2025 MacBook Air models start at $999 for the 13-inch version—the same price as the outgoing M2 model—while the 15-inch version now begins at $1,199, down from last year’s $1,299 price tag. This makes the new MacBook Air lineup more accessible without sacrificing performance. Apple claims the M4 MacBook Air is twice as fast as the original M1 model, though performance ...
TikTok plans to shut down its app in the U.S. on Sunday, according to sources. TikTok Faces Potential Shutdown in the U.S. on Sunday TikTok is preparing to cease its U.S. operations on Sunday, affecting its 170 million American users, unless a last-minute intervention prevents the enforcement of a federal ban, according to sources familiar with the situation. The shutdown stems from a law requiring TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to divest its U.S. operations by January 19. Federal Ban and Legal Dispute The federal ban, signed into law last April, mandates the removal of TikTok from Apple’s and Google’s app stores if ByteDance fails to comply with the divestment deadline. The law also prohibits U.S. companies from providing services necessary for the platform’s maintenance or updates, effectively making the app inoperable for existing users. ByteDance has argued in court filings that the law violates the First Amendment’s protections against government restrictions on ...
